It seems obvious to say that styling on wet hair is the best solution but in some circumstances damp hair may be a better option.
I’ve had my frustrations with styling on damp hair. Essentially once water leaves my hair we have a stiffness that takes place and my hair automatically goes into tangle mode. While t-shirt drying alleviates this somewhat, it still seems I’m battling with keeping it detangled while styling. I have a love hate relationship with styling damp hair simply because if I t-shirt dry for a few minutes my hair is damp and styling time is cut down tremendously, yet damp hair tends to make parting and styling complicated and curl definition is awful with styling on damp hair. Since I wear my hair in protective styles 95% of the time, curl definition need not apply but on the days I want to get cute and rock a curly fro, damp hair is just not going to work for me.
As it relates to wet hair…
The curl definition is amazing! I can part hair and depending on the style I’m going for I can style hair in less than 20 minutes. Sadly, the drying time is ridic! My hair will hold the water for days which then creates FRIZZ. I don’t mind a little halo of frizz but a head full is not what I want.
I desire to find a happy medium where hair is not to wet and not to dry. I’ve been experimenting with different ways water and styling come together. I’ve alternated between various styling products but have yet to achieve the amazing twist outs from times past and sadly I’m unsure how to recreate these twist outs again. I’ve made the conscious decision to go back to Carol’s Daughter Tui Conditioner as the curl definition from the conditioner alone was miraculously amazing. Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose is not being kicked to the curb but it’s going into retirement for fear my hair has become immune to it as Carol’s Daughter did in the past. I’ll keep you posted on my revisit to the Carol’s Daughter line with pics of my wash, conditioning and styling process. The main of objective is to get back to the amazing twist outs I once knew. I have not been able to achieve a twist out that was as successful as the ones from last year, so I’ll try it styled wet and dry and see what happens. Stay tuned.
That’s All Folks!
